3 Steps to Renting a Roll-Off Dumpster

3 Steps to Renting a Roll-Off Dumpster

If you’ve never rented a dumpster before, you might not know exactly how to go about it, and you probably have lots of questions regarding the process. You shouldn’t get anxious about it however, because it really is a fairly simple process, and one that you can arrange without a great deal of hassle. Below you’ll find the three major steps involved in renting a dumpster, so once you’ve read them you’ll be able to have a dumpster setup at your residence, and ready for use.

Step 1 – Choose a size

This is one of the most important steps in the process, and it will be determined by the volume of discarded material you’ll be putting into it. If you should arrange for a dumpster that’s too small, you could overfill the unit, and have material hanging over the sides. On the other hand, if you order one that’s too large for the job, you’ll just be over-paying for a large dumpster you don’t really need. At S&S Waste Services, we offer three sizes of dumpsters to best accommodate your needs. Our dumpster sizes are 10, 12, and 15 cubic yards. If you’re not sure about the size you need, give us a call and we’ll be able to recommend the right size for you.

Step 2 – Get quotes and place your order

Provide our service representative with some details about your upcoming project, and we will then be able to provide you with a quote for the appropriate dumpster. Make sure to relay to them how much debris you expect to discard, and the length of time you’ll need the dumpster. If there are any unique requirements associated with your project, be sure to mention these to the representative.

When you have decided on the proper dumpster size, you’re ready to place the order. When placing the order, describe exactly where the dumpster is to be setup, and make sure that area is clear of any obstructions. You’ll need a credit card when ordering, so have this ready while you’re on the phone.

You don’t have to be physically present when the dumpster is dropped off, but you do need to have a clear area for it. If possible, mark the drop-off area with cones or something else that is easily visible to show the service people where you want it positioned. Be sure to know exactly what materials are considered to be prohibited items, i.e. those which it cannot accept because they will be rejected by the local landfill. This will avoid any misunderstandings later, and it will prevent the possibility of having your dumpster discard material rejected.

Step 3 – Schedule a pickup

As you approach the end of the time specified in your rental agreement, you’ll receive a reminder from S&S Waste Services about picking the dumpster up, and a prompt for you to schedule a pickup. If you find that you need more time or you have filled the first dumpster and would like to have another one dropped off, please give us a call to schedule this service!

When your pickup time arrives, make sure that the dumpster itself is totally accessible, and that there is no material hanging over the sides. This is because that debris might fall off the dumpster into the street, littering it with your discard material. These are the basic steps involved with arranging for a dumpster, so hopefully this will help when you get around to ordering a dumpster for your next cleanup project.
